Across five interlocking planes of existence, Ian Goodale’s surreal debut novel pits five unsuspecting souls against one potentially apocalyptic enemy—an infant birthed from the sky. Plus, a Mole hagiography.

Alina was the first in El to receive the vision of the baby in the sky. On Filanita, Wol, and the New Earth, the Skyward Infant made his majestic and terrifying presence known, too. Down in the Sewers his existence remained obscure, yet his effect would be no less great.

Across five interlocking planes of existence, where reincarnation is as mundane as filing taxes, five unsuspecting souls converge to battle a potentially apocalyptic visitor to Earth. Each accompanied by their animal familiar and wielding an esoteric magic, Airan, Ana, Alin 2, Alina, and Iliadora traverse water, land, air, and substrates unknown to save their home(s). What does the infant want? Can the Sewers’ terrifying wormlike Marauders be successfully evaded? Will a small monkey riding in a cloud arrest Alina for trespassing in the sky? The multidimensional paths of this multidimensional world lead anywhere but the expected.

With a narrative form mirroring the upward collapse of the Tetractys symbol, Molehills in Heaven tangles together classical adventure fantasy, creation myths, and philosophical musing—plus miles and miles of similes—to confuse and delight the adventurous reader.

Plus, a Mole hagiography.
